The PD2000 Series has been replaced by the new
PD2100
Series.

The
Progressive Dynamics INTELI-POWER MARINE series of marine
battery chargers incorporate a built-in microprocessor
that constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on
battery voltage and use, the microprocessor then selects
one of three different charging voltages and one of four
operating modes (Boost, Normal, Storage or Equalize) to
ensure a safe rapid recharge.
If
the microprocessor senses the battery has been heavily
discharged, it automatically selects the Boost Mode,
increasing the charging voltage to 14.4 volts to bring
the battery up to 90% of full charge as rapidly as possible.
The system then automatically switches to the Normal
Mode, 13.6 volts, to safely complete the charge. If
the battery is fully charged and the 12 volt electrical
systems are turned off for a period of 30 hours, the
system selects the Storage Mode, 13.2 volts. This lower
voltage reduces battery gassing and water loss. To prevent
battery sulfation and stratification during the Storage
Mode of operation, the system selects the Equalize Mode
every 21 hours for a period of 15 minutes. The Equalize
Mode increases the voltage to 14.4 volts for a 15-minute
period to eliminate battery sulfation and stratification
problems.
Progressive
Dynamics Inteli-Power Marine Battery Chargers incorporate
a microprocessor that constantly monitors the voltage
of up to three separate batteries. The microprocessor
then automatically selects the proper operating mode
(Boost, Normal, Storage or Equalize). The charge profile
below shows how these four modes operate when recharging
a battery that has been discharged to 10.5 volts.
INTELI-POWER
RECHARGE PROFILE

BOOST
MODE... 14.4-v brings the Battery up to 90%
charge rapidly.
NORMAL
MODE... 13.6-v safely completes the charge.
STORAGE MODE... 13.2-v maintains Battery charge and prevents
gassing and water loss.
EQUALIZE MODE... 14.4-v prevents Battery Electrolyte
stratification and the resulting sulfation.

MARINE BATTERY CHARGER SAFETY AND RELIABILITY FEATURES
1.
ELECTRONIC CURRENT LIMITING – This safety feature
will rapidly reduce the output voltage to zero volts in case
of an electrical short or overload condition. This rapid shutdown
like the circuit breaker in your house prevents possible wiring
and charger damage.
2.
INTELLIGENT COOLING FAN – A solid state temperature
sensing and control system operates the cooling fan only under
high load conditions, not at night when the customer is trying
to sleep. Some competitive chargers use Electro-mechanical
devices to provide temperature sensing and fan control. Electro-mechanical
sensors are more subject to failure and may stick in the closed
mode causing the fan to operate all the time, resulting in
an irritating noise. They can also fail to close during high
temperature conditions and prevent the fan from operating.
This failure may cause over heating and possible charger failure.
3.
AUTOMATIC OVER-TEMPERATURE SHUTDOWN – This
safety feature will shut the charger down in the unlikely
event of a fan failure and prevent damage to the charger.
This safety feature will also activate if the area where the
charger is mounted is too small, has inadequate ventilation,
or is accidentally covered by the customer.
4.
LOW VOLTAGE OPERATION – The Progressive Dynamics
Inteli-Power chargers will operate at low AC line voltages
without damage. This feature is especially important in boat
docks where AC line voltage can be as low as 90 volts. Low
AC line voltages may damage competitive chargers.
5.
HIGH VOLTAGE PROTECTION – All chargers incorporate
our patented High Voltage Shutdown circuitry. This feature
automatically shuts the charger down to protect sensitive
electronics in the event of high voltage transients on the
AC power line, or if the RV generator regulator should momentarily
fail.
6.
REVERSE BATTERY PROTECTION – Our patented Reverse
Battery circuitry prevents charger damage and unnecessary
warranty calls in the event the customer or dealer accidentally
connects the battery in reverse. Simple replacement of the
fuse(s) located inside the charger-wiring compartment restores
the unit to normal operation. Some competitive chargers can
be damaged and require replacement if the battery leads are
accidentally reversed.
